Who We Are
Solarbelt FairFuel gGmbH was founded in 2019 as the non-profit partner organization of atmosfair and is headquartered in Berlin-Neukölln, Germany. The organization owns and operates the world's first commercial-scale e-kerosene production plant in Emsland, Germany.
Its mission is to initiate, build, and operate production facilities for new climate-friendly aviation fuels in developing countries through fair energy partnerships. These fuels are based either on green hydrogen (Power-to-Liquid) or on sustainable residual biomass (Biomass-to-Liquid), rather than conventional biofuels. Solarbelt actively pursues both technology pathways and aligns its sustainability criteria with the atmosfair fairfuel Standard. In doing so, it promotes a future in which countries of the Global North and Global South work together as equal partners to advance climate protection. The organization is currently developing follow-up projects in Asia, Africa, and South America.
At the same time, Solarbelt works to build demand for sustainable aviation fuels among airlines and other customers while testing and advancing emerging technologies such as Direct Air Capture (DAC). As a non-profit organization, Solarbelt distributes no profits. Instead, all revenues from airlines, tourism companies, and other customers are reinvested in expanding production capacity and further developing sustainable fuel technologies.
