Aviation Fuel from Coconut Shells in Indonesia

Together with our Indonesian partner, we are developing an industrial-scale Biomass-to-Liquid facility that will produce synthetic crude oil from coconut shells in Indonesia. In 2024 and 2025, we jointly assessed the technical and economic feasibility of the project. As part of this work, we conducted a full gasification campaign at the Syngas Platform in VIenna. DFor this purpose, we shipped 25 tonnes of coconut shells from Indonesia to Austria, where they were processed and converted first into synthesis gas and then into synthetic crude oil during a multi-day campaign at the Syngas Platform operated by our partner BEST - Bioenergy and Sustainable Technologies GmbH. We have since completed the final step and successfully produced kerosene from this feedstock.

In parallel, we completed the initial stages of plant development, known as Pre-Basic Engineering, and carried out a detailed study on the availability and cost of coconut shells for industrial-scale sustainable fuel production in Indonesia.

The fundamental concept for a plant in Indonesia is therefore already in place. We are now preparing to begin the next phase of development: the detailed technical design, known as Basic Engineering.

The future facility is planned with the following key parameters:
